Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 383 (HCMUD 383) would like to update residents regarding the process of how water usage is billed within the District. It is the Board of Directors’ hope that understanding the schedule of billing each month will help residents avoid late payment fees and potential risk of service disconnection.
The District operator, Municipal Operations and Consulting (MOC), reads the water meters within the District each month on or around the 7th day. This meter reading generally occurs about a week following the HCMUD 383 monthly Board of Directors meeting, which occurs on the 1st Wednesday of each month.
The bills are then processed and sent out or digitally updated for residents of the District. Bills are due on the 14th of each month, for the previous month’s usage. In the event of a holiday or weekend, the due date is moved to the next business day closest to the 14th.
In the event a resident misses a payment for whatever reason, MOC sends a delinquent letter 10 days before the Board meeting (mentioned above), and a door tag is left at the residence 10 days after the Board meeting. Delinquent letters are sent to any account 30 days past due, and the letter provides 5 days to bring the account current before incurring any additional penalty. If a door tag is left at a residence, it provides an additional 24 hours to respond and bring the account current before service may be interrupted for non-payment.
To summarize, the water bill is due on the 14th of every month, and delinquencies are considered after 30 days past due.
